Week 12

Yay for making it through the 1st trimester! This week was a great week because it marked the official "telling" of the big news to all of our friends. We were extremely happy with the fabulously excited response all of our friends gave us. And it was also funny hearing how many people had their suspicions about whether or not we were pregnant. We also told our church friends who found it pretty hilarious how I had developed a communion "fake out" as I call it for church service. I knew that if I didn't take the wine during communion people would immediately figure out that I was pregnant. So each week I'd take my wafer and pretend to dunk it in the wine but didn't really. So to watching eyes no one knew my little secret, which apparently worked quite well. Tom and I also told all of our coworkers who also greeted us with very excited responses. I have one coworker who is pregnant and due in just one month so it's been nice now having her be able to share some tips with me. In general, it just feels wonderful to finally be able to talk about it out in the open.

This week I also had one morning where I didn't feel nauseous at all, which I felt was a huge blessing since I haven't had one of those mornings in quite some time. It hasn't lasted but it definitely gave me hope of better mornings to come.

Here's the news on Baby G for this week and the great developments they have made....
By now the baby weighs a full half-ounce and is about the size of a large plum. The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. The baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. If my abdomen were to be prodded, the baby will squirm in response. The fetal digestive system is beginning to practice contraction movements so she or he can eat someday, and their bone marrow is busy making white blood cells. The pituitary gland has started producing the hormones that'll enable them to make babies of their own in a couple of decades.

And last but not least is baby bump picture for week 12 which as you can see is just starting to protrude!

Week 11

I've been enjoying thinking these past couple of weeks about the changes that are happening with "Baby G". Here are some of the highlights happening this week in week 11:

The baby is now a little more than 2 inches long and weighs about 1/3 of an ounce-teeny! Their head is equal in length to the rest of their body. Who knows, they may have a big head like I did as a baby! Hair follicles are forming, fingernail and toenail beds are developing, and the baby's torso is straightening out. The baby can now stretch, somersault, and do forward rolls. Hopefully they'll be better at gymnastics, though, than I was :)

For me, I've been feeling less nausea this week overall which has been very welcome. Mornings are still very tough, though, as all I can stomach to eat is toast. But my wonderful husband, Tom, has been a huge help, brining me my toast and juice to bed every morning so I can ease into the day.

This upcoming Saturday we've planned a dinner out to a restaurant called Pizza Luce with our closest friends (Becky, Jeromy, Kirstyn, Dave, Rachel, and Sarah) and we're going to break the big baby news there to them. We're both really excited to be able to now tell everyone and not to have to keep this wonderful news a secret any longer!

We're also planning this weekend to do a little shopping around for baby room furniture. It may be early but it's difficult to contain my love of decorating so we want to get some ideas of what crib, dresser, etc. we'll want. I'll be honest that I already have a sketch of the baby room including a tree mural I plan on painting, so needless to say, I'm itching to start the decorating process!

To end, here's my weekly picture of my soon to be ever expanding belly as well as a picture of our silly dog, Marty, who was looking pretty hilarious with his rubber Frisbee that he's chewed a hole out of the center of.

Week 10

It's really radical to think that I'm already in week 10 which means technically I'm 25% through the pregnancy already! I've posted another baby bump photo as well as a photo of our first animal child, Marty, our 2 1/2 year old golden retriever. Marty's been a good buddy lately hanging out with me when I'm laying low on the couch.

Some interesting tidbits about the baby's development this week courtesy of the What to Expect When You're Expecting website:

"Your baby's nearly an inch and a half long and the size of a prune, but not nearly as shriveled. In fact, your baby is really taking a human shape now. Bones and cartilage are forming, and small indentations on the legs are developing into knees and ankles. The tooth bud fairy is making her appearance this week, heralding the arrival of your baby's little choppers, which are forming under the gums. Other systems are go, too. Your baby's stomach is producing digestive juices, the kidneys are producing larger quantities of urine, and, if your baby's a boy, he's already producing testosterone."

We're tentatively planning on telling all our friends the big BABY NEWS in a week and a half and we're both looking forward to that greatly. This past weekend I got to meet the 1 month old baby of one of our friends from our faith group from church and that was definitely special to be able to hold a baby while I'm growing one! It sure was tough, though, not to spill the beans and let them know that we'll soon have one of our own!

Have a good week to you all! We're planning on doing a weekly post on the blog to keep everyone up to date so feel free to check back weekly!

Word is out!

Welcome to our blog and the inaugural blog post. We wanted to write this blog not only as a way to share updates and pictures with family and friends, but also as a scrapbook and journal of sorts for our own memories of this process into parenthood. We hope you enjoy!

Yesterday marked a big milestone in the pregnancy process. We finally told our families our great news! We were really excited to finally get to spill the beans. It's been difficult having to keep this immense secret for the last few weeks since we found out about "Baby G" as we've been calling her or him.

Yesterday was also a big milestone for a whole other reason. We had our first prenatal doctor's appointment! The way my doctor's office works is you rotate meeting with the MD and meeting with a Nurse Practitioner. Yesterday we met with our Nurse Practitioner, and got the full run down of tests and questions to make sure I'm doing ok. Good news is I'm doing very well so far, minus the almost daily nausea and fatigue part. The most exciting part, though, of the appointment, was getting our first ultrasound. We got to see the little blob on the ultrasound screen but most wonderfully, the little heartbeat as well!

Our baby is about the size of an olive so far and was projected at yesterday's appointment to be about 8 weeks, 5 days along. So this puts our projected due date at September 10, 2010. Mark your calendars! I've attached the pictures we got from our ultrasound as well as my first picture documenting the soon to be growing "bump" of my belly.

I also added in one of the cute onesie I couldn't resist buying :)
